{ My Favorite Tacos }

I call these "special occasion" tacos because we make them for friends and special evenings. These are not a typical evening dinner for us because they are a little intensive to make, but so worth the effort. I first had these tacos at friend's house for a large get together, our hostess said that her friend had fallen in love with taco truck tacos and that he had then set out on a mission to recreate them. His taco truck inspired tacos are the recipe I'm going to share with you today. Now poor yourself a margarita or pop a lime in your Corona and let's get cooking!

{ Baby 'Fashion Bibs' }

Now I call these "fashion bibs" or "a fashion statement" because they are for spit not food and will be worn like clothing; and if like my kiddos your little one never drools or spits up, it's really just for fashion that they'll ever wear one of these bibs. But whether a baby ever drools or not, bibs are a fun gift to give and quite simple to make.

{ Cooking Spray Call Out }

That's right, I'm calling out cooking spray because I find their labelling to be a little misleading and I have an inexpensive, possibly money saving, healthy alternative to share with you today.

{Variation on a Theme - Chloe's Black Apple Doll}

On Monday my sweet little niece Chloe turned two and being the belated auntie that I am, I just got her present made this week. I had planned to do it last weekend but that turned out to be impossible because I chose to value people over tasks (Love you Bryn & Kyle!). In any case, happy belated birthday Chloe! It's the birthday that keeps giving. Besides, this way my gift won't get lost in all of the others, right?

{ Your Weekly Peek + Soup }

Week 16, only 6 more weeks and I'll be back to grocery store produce; boo. But until then, I'll continue to share what I'm getting. We didn't get anything new this week, so I thought that I'd share some pics of the produce with you and another great way to use a ton of vegetables - soup.

{ Power Up! }

You've probably heard me talk about my choosy eater before. But even when we give her food that we know she likes, she won't always eat it and who pays later when she doesn't eat dinner? Me. Yeah, she's hungry and uncomfortable but I'm the one left feeling horrible that my daughter is hungry and that I need to tow the line because this is a habit of hers. Further,  not only is she hungry but she won't fall asleep hungry so she's up crying way too late because I respected her decision not to eat. Again, who's paying? Me. Because all of us parents know what being up late means for the next day. And sometimes, even if she does fall asleep without food she'll be up in the middle of the night or super early the next morning to eat and a horrible cycle begins.

We've been strong, it just doesn't work with her. She never changes, even after a week of hard core towing the line about no food after dinner, she decides she's not going to eat and that's it. Everyone around her pays. So we have a little strategy to get her to eat her dinner. If your kid eats fine, I don't recommend starting this. But if you're at your whits end to get your kid to eat, maybe what works for us will work for you.

{ Fabric Ribbon - How to Make Your Own }

Here it is! Monday again and we're all back to it. I hope that you had a great weekend. I had a fun weekend myself, I didn't get much done but it was fun. I did make it out to the Anacortes Farmer's Market where I got this great idea for fabric ribbon. I wish that I had thought to get the lady who runs the stand's card because she doesn't have any labels on her items and I would love to give her credit for this great idea. So here's to you farmer's market lady; this is your idea but I'm going to share it. Thanks!

{ A Weekend Away }

Well I'm here at my dad's in Anacortes. I've traded in two girls and husband for two shi tsus and a view this weekend.

I'm going to keep this post quick since I've got lots of things I want to get to, but I thought that I'd share my weekend to do list with you.

{ Decoupaged Journals }

I don't know about you, but I like to write in something pretty. It makes me unexplainably happy and excited to journal. Go figure. In any case, I'm cheap - or some might say thrifty. But no matter which word you use, all of the journals I really like cost more than I'm willing to spend and the journals I'm willing to pay for leave a little something to be desired in the looks department. So when I journal in one of these, I try to remind myself that it's just a place to write and that when my grandchildren read them after I'm departed they won't judge me by the appearance of my journals. Did I say that out loud? Come on, you know you half think about someone else reading your journal some time in the future. But back to my point. Life is short, so why not have a journal you love and not break the bank at the same time? In comes decoupage (Mod Podge for you name branders out there) and scrapbook paper to make this thrifty lady happy.

{ The Big First Day! }

Original image from E-How

Well we did it! All three of us got fed, dressed and out the door by 8:30 am... a little later than my ideal but still a success. The big girl made it to her first day of preschool on time. Here's how she looked on her way out:

{ Beatin' the Heat }

Happy Monday! (Is that an oxymoron? I mean Happy and Monday in the same sentence?) How was your weekend? We had a great time beating the heat here in Oly. For those of you not from around here, once the mercury reaches 60 degrees you will see people wearing shorts and sandals and yes, even men going topless. So when we had a whole week of over 80 degree weather, for probably the first time this summer, it was definitely time to get out and "beat the heat."

{ Crafting With Your Kiddo: Foam Stamping }

As I told you yesterday, Thursday was P's preschool orientation. And at the orientation every kid was given the bag that they are supposed to bring to and from school for the year. There were several colors, lucky P had a purple one on her chair.

Now thhe fun part about these bags is that we get to decorate them. P already loved her bag because it was her special preschool bag, but now she gets to decorate it too and that will make it even more special. So we took a Momma and P brainstorming trip to Jo-Ann's to figure out what we could do to decorate her bag without using any heat - heat will melt the bag. After roaming the store for ideas, I decided that foam stamping with fabric paint would be the perfect way to get P involved in the decorating process; but Jo-Ann's didn't have any foam stamps, so I had to get crafty.

{ Doily Love - A Work in Progress }

Today was a big day for us, P had her preschool orientation. Needless to say, we've been busy and having fun but I wanted to drop in and share a little bit of a "work in progress". So here we go!

{ A Blueberry Day }

Wow! There is nothing more gorgeous than a warm sunny day in the Pacific Northwest. And what amazes me most is how today's beauty is the same as yesterday's with only one key difference: the kids went back to school today. With one click of the calendar, fall has unofficially arrived and it's in the air even if summer, who showed up late this year, didn't get the memo. It's with this unofficial passing of summer to fall that I want to share with you one last summer family adventure: blueberry picking.

{ Krinkle Toys }

Today I want to share a super simple baby toy I made last week. With babies galore being born all around me, I need simple gifts that have the thoughtful touch of being handmade. These Krinkle Toys fit that bill. So come along as I show you how I made them, who knows? Maybe you'll make some too.

{ All Things Blackberry... }

Blackberry season is upon us! Here in the northwest blackberries abound in overgrown yards, on paths, roadsides... they're really easy to find and even more important, free. Well, I take that back; some sweat and a little blood may be required to pick them but they won't cost you any money. We have blackberry bushes just down the road growing on the path Kyle runs on and the dead end street that leads up to it. Kyle and the girls had been checking to see if the berries were ripe for weeks at the end of their runs; finally, about a week or two ago Phoebe proudly announced to me that the blackberries were ready to eat after a run with dad. So we had to get out and get picking.
