{ Fiesta Bean Bake - A Quick and Simple Meal }

Today I'm going to share a quick and easy meal to throw together. My friend Sarah served this to me and I've made it twice since; it's delicious and light on the prep work. So here we go, Fiesta Bean Bake.

{ CSA Recipes + Your Peek }

Isn't it a beautiful week! This week's treat is definitely the lavender. Although you can eat lavender, I'll be fine just looking at it and smelling it. The other newbies to the box this week were potatoes (purple viking and white California) and zucchini. Other than that, we've had it all before: lettuce, broccoli, beets, salad turnips, collard greens, scallions and garlic; but we're definitely happy to have it again.

{ Get Your Kiddos Crafting - The Hungry Caterpillar }

Looking for something fun to do with your old egg cartons? Here's a fun idea, make a Hungry Caterpillar. Phoebe loves The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, so she was thrilled with the idea of making her own.

{ Homemade Strawberry Jam - Delish! }

Mmm, mmm, mmm. Is there anything better than homemade jam? Store bought jam, as with most things mass produced, has nothing on small batch homemade jam. And it's so easy to make. One evening or afternoon can easily get you a year's supply of homemade jam, if you don't give it all away.

This was my first time making jam as an adult and it really was super simple. I'll break it all down for you here so you can decide if you want to make your own jam too.

{ Get Your Kiddos Crafting - Cheerio Birdfeeder }

This is a super simple, but fun craft for toddlers and preschoolers: a Cheerio Bird Feeder. I can't say that any birds have eaten off of ours, which has caused Phoebe some concern, but they were fun to make all the same. Phoebe was able to make hers by herself and even little Tabi was able to make one with a little help too.

{ A Sweet Summer Treat - Raspberry Sorbet and Citrus Shortbread }

We had some friends over for dinner on Tuesday. We don't normally have guests on week nights, so this was a special occasion leaving me to prepare for our guests. If you know much about me, you know that Kyle usually does a lot of the cooking and is no slouch when it comes to cleaning around the house. But I'm proud to say that I pulled most of it off by myself. Kyle got the bean salad together and steamed the broccoli, but I did everything else and got to flex my culinary muscles.

The Six O'clock Scramble and I do all of the meal planning, even if Kyle does the cooking and baking a lot of the time, so it was fun to pick out a dessert and execute it myself. What did I choose? Homemade raspberry sorbet and citrus shortbread, delicious. I mean it, if you try one new cookie recipe this summer it must be this citrus shortbread. Read on and I'll share the links to the recipes I used and the tips I learned making them.

{ Tips for Eating and Cleaning Greens + Your Peek }

Well, I didn't get a chance to grab a "peek" at our box for you while the veggies were fresh and beautiful last night because we had some friends over so I hope that this shot of the yummy tomatoes and basil we got will suffice. They came together in a bag that just reeks of caprese salad; in fact, they smelled so much like that that I think I will have to use them for that very purpose. Other new treats we got this week were cauliflower, zucchini and kohlrabi greens. We also got more shelling peas (yay!), lettuce, carrots, broccoli, salad greens and garlic. Yum!

We mostly got salad greens this week, but we love greens of all types. In fact, we look forward to the variety of fresh greens we get in our CSA box. When I try to buy non-lettuce greens at the store they're usually on their way out and more bitter than what we get from the farm. A lot of you probably don't eat greens because you never have. It's one of those you don't know what you don't know kind of scenarios because lets face it, greens are not a staple of the American diet. (OR you had canned or store bought greens that weren't so tasty once and never ate greens again.) So I'm going to throw out a few tasty and easy ways for you to enjoy greens and an amazing tip on how to clean them quickly.

{ Flowers - Bringing Summer to My Rainy Northwest Home }

If you have cutting flowers in your yard, your house is probably overflowing with beauty all summer. For those of us who have to buy our flowers, it can be expensive so the flowers are probably less profuse. But last week I picked up a bunch of wildflowers at TJ's for $3.99, it was the beginning of a beautiful summer in my rainy northwest home. Today I'll share some quick ways to add beauty and color to your home on the cheap and how to keep your blooms blooming longer.

{ The Nikon is Back! }

Maybe you don't analyze my every picture like I do, but you may have noticed a few blurry ones since I started posting in April. That's because since my post { A Day With the Tulips } the first weekend in May, I've been shooting all of my pictures with a dated iPhone 3g (if you know anything about the original iPhones, you know that the cameras aren't any good). So after a good eight weeks sans my camera, I am thrilled to have the Nikon back. It's nothing special, just a D40, but worlds better than my phone or any other point and shoot camera I've used.

{ Simple, Easy, Natural and Cheap - Homemade Vinaigrette + Your Weekly Peek }

Mmmm, mmm, mmm! I'm so excited for this week's box. This week's highlight is the shelling peas. How often do we get fresh peas? And they're so much better than frozen, they're like buttery bites of heaven. I can't wait to have them with our flank steak tonight.

{ From God's Heart to Yours }

We all go through seasons in life: the good, the bad and the blah. Unfortunately, it seems like an inordinate amount of my friends are going through long hard seasons of suffering and persevering right now- aka, the bad. So when I ran into this greeting card by Positively Green Cards 4th of July weekend, I was touched by it's words:

{ Going Rogue and Pattern Free - A T-Shirt Babydoll Dress }

For quite a while now I've had it in my head that I was going to make Phoebe a dress using a t-shirt that I picked up from Ross for $3.99. First I'll show you where I got my inspiration to make this dress and then I'll share how I made it so you can make one too.

{ Your Weekly Peek + Red Velvet Cake with Beets }

Here we are on week 5 of CSA season. This week's box was a little slim on the pickings, but hey we haven't exactly finished last week's produce yet so who are we to complain. All of this out of town and meals with friends business really cuts into our veggie eating capacity, but we're loving it all. In today's post I'll share the new veggies we got this week and I'll also show you a fun way to eat your beets, Red Velvet Cake with Beets.

{ Happy Independence Day! }

Another Phoebe and Momma Creation
Lately I've seen a ton of blog posts about Independence Day projects, crafts, attire, etc. I'm not sure if it's Washington or just me, but I really didn't know that the 4th of July was such a crafter's inspiration. Around here, it seems that the fourth is more about blowing things up than celebrating the stars and stripes.

{ Simple Smell Good Kitchen Tips }

I don't know about you, but I am an advertiser's dream. Like a fish drawn to a shiny lure I am drawn in by pretty packaging and fancy claims. I often have to consciously remind myself that I don't need the thing I'm looking at, I often already have an "at home remedy". In today's post, I'll share two examples of home remedies I use to get the stink out of the disposal and out of the air in our kitchen.
